August 29, 1998, the Toms River East Little League baseball team defeated Kashima, Japan in Williamsport, PA 12-9 to win the 52^nd Little League World Series. The biggest thrill was the fact that an American team had not won in the previous four years. Our National Pastime was being championed by other countries such as Venezuela, Taiwan, Chinese Taipei and Mexico until along came "The Beast From The East" ... Toms River brought the trophy back to the United States of America!
