Keeping it simple and straight forward, there are more and more baseball fields being built that are not quite used. Don't get me wrong I am all for promoting physical activity and facilities for those activities.…

Commuting Around Increased Tolls

New Year's Day 2012 marked an increase for tolls along the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, and now I, and hundreds of thousands of others, had to shell out more to get to work.

I am somewhat fortunate, because with my drive from Toms River to Lincroft, comes a few options to avoid the Parkway. I usually take advantage of these "shortcuts" on Fridays in the summers to beat the vacationers…

First Up ... TR North Football

Let me start by saying; I have a ton of respect for the LaBarca family's ability to coach a football team. From Chip Sr.'s Monmouth County days to Chip Jr.'s 12-0 season with the 2007 TRN team, their accomplishments speak for themself... a standard that's probably caused LaBarca (the younger) a few headaches lately.…

Explain Yourself !

I can't get outside, and most of the things I need to get done are (you guessed it) outside. No matter, I'm making the best of it, and have decided not to worry about rain water infiltrating my basement. I am relieved beyond belief that (a) I'm not shoveling snow in October, and (b) I said no to a friend's offer of a seat to today's Rutgers - WV game Writer's note: I crossed "attend monsoon game" off my bucket list the last time RU visited West Point.

Chicken stock on the…

Head Injury Hits Home, Puts Youth Sports in Perspective

We are parents of two children that are athletes. That could be a scary stand alone comment in itself.  As parents, we all hold our breath at any given time while watching our kids play sports. Some of us have allowed them to play "banged-up" or sick. GUILTY!!

Our son is a "retired" distance runner, now in college. Growing up he played Little League Baseball (I was his coach) , youth basketball and captained his cross country and track teams while in high school. I once let…

September Day at the Jersey Shore without BENNY

September 13th 2011 Seaside Heights NJ  - So I got up early and headed over to the beach today. Upon arriving at the crack of dawn I witnessed some walkers on the boardwalk and a lone surfer in the Ocean, but much to my delight the beach was empty.  Wow a couple of weeks really makes a difference. This time of year the locals tend to flock to the sands and relax without the madness of the Summer Benny.… Continue

Is there a song for every Holiday?

Well for the people who did not get to the beach, get a tan, blah blah blah...  I guess there has to be a song for every season, event and any shindig that comes up.  If you don't like rap you better just mute this one, but with that in mind if there a Rock & Roll version released that would be something that might catch on - lol . So if you have not been to the beach this summer, this weekend would be a perfect one to do so!  The Jersey Shore has the beaches,…

August 29, 1998, the Toms River East Little League baseball team defeated Kashima, Japan in Williamsport, PA 12-9 to win the 52nd Little League World Series. The biggest thrill was the fact that an American team had not won in the previous four years.
